Not in the three listings, not in the job
This is the purest map-pack trade there is. A locked-out customer taps one of the three businesses in the box. Page one of the organic results is, for practical purposes, invisible to them.
A locksmith's customer is standing outside a door, often at night, usually on a phone with a flat battery. There is no browsing, no comparison and no second visit to the website. It is one search, one call, and whoever answers wins. That makes this the most ruthless funnel on this site.
Worth being blunt about
Most businesses on this site get minutes or weeks of consideration. A locksmith gets about fifteen seconds, from a person who is stressed, outdoors and possibly on three per cent battery. Nothing on the website matters except being found in the map box, loading instantly and being answerable. Every design decision follows from that.
How the job is won
Fifteen seconds, from a stressed person outdoors on three per cent battery.
Standing at a door, often at night, often with a child or a dog inside.
"locksmith near me". The map box is the entire result as far as they are concerned.
Nobody compares locksmiths. There is no second visit to your website.
Not the cheapest, not the best reviewed on balance — the one that picked up.
Three things we see on nearly every site in this industry. None of them are about how the site looks.
This is the purest map-pack trade there is. A locked-out customer taps one of the three businesses in the box. Page one of the organic results is, for practical purposes, invisible to them.
There is no callback in this trade. The customer is on a doorstep and they will keep dialling until somebody picks up. A missed call at 1am is not a delayed job — it is a job that belongs to someone else within ninety seconds.
Lockouts pay the bills but they are the least profitable thing a locksmith does. Master key systems, commercial hardware, restricted key systems and security upgrades are worth far more, and most locksmith websites barely mention them.
What we'd build
Six of the things we build or run, chosen for this industry. Each says whether it is in the monthly plan or quoted on top — custom software is software, not pages. Plans and prices are on the pricing page.
There is no callback in this trade. A person locked out at 3am dials until someone picks up, and an unanswered call is a job that belonged to someone else within ninety seconds. This is the single highest-value thing on this page.
Essentially all of your conversions are phone calls, so a dashboard that counts form submissions is measuring a rounding error. Call tracking is how you find out what is actually working.
Service-area pages for the suburbs you genuinely attend at night, written with something real in them. Response time is the promise here, so the coverage has to be honest.
For a trade decided entirely in the map box, review count and recency move you between position one and position four. That difference is most of your revenue.
Rekeys, lock upgrades and commercial work are not emergencies and do not need a phone call. Cal.com or Calendly takes them while you are on a job.
Master key and access control enquiries are a sales process, not a callout. Into Zoho, HubSpot or Pipedrive so they are followed up rather than lost in a call log.
A basic AI chatbot trained on your business, answering common customer questions on your site around the clock. We build it, train it and connect it free with every plan — AI message usage is billed separately.
Anything beyond basic question answering — lead capture and qualification, a large knowledge base, appointment booking, or connecting to your CRM and other systems — is quoted per project.
The signature build
Almost nothing on a locksmith website matters. Four things do, and they are all about the fifteen seconds between a search and a call.
Above everything, tappable without zooming, before any menu, logo or hero image.
The real test is a phone outside a house at night on a weak connection, not a laptop on office wi-fi.
"Are you even near me" is the second question, and an unanswered one sends them back to the results.
The best-designed page in the trade is worthless if the call rings out. Design and answering are the same problem here.
What your customers type
These are the kinds of phrases people use when they need a locksmith. Which of them are worth chasing depends on volume, difficulty and what the work is worth to you — that is what the keyword research settles before we write a word, and it is the first thing we do on any project.
Most locksmiths run something like ServiceM8 or AroFlo. Where that software publishes an API we can feed it directly; where it does not, the enquiry still arrives as structured data rather than a paragraph of email. We check which before we quote anything.
Google Ads
`locksmith` sits around $22 a click. The saving grace is that a lockout is a real job with a real price attached, decided within minutes.
Ad spend is not part of the plan — it goes straight to Google. What the plan covers is building and managing the campaigns. See how we run Google Ads →
Your existing tools
Every tool listed here publishes a developer API, which is why it is listed — we checked. That is not the same as a connection already built: what can be pushed depends on your plan and setup, so we scope it before quoting. Where your software has no API, we say so rather than quote around it.
Being straight with you
We are a small Melbourne agency with two clients so far. Here is what that means for a project in your industry.
Flooring supply for retail and trade. Website, a trade account system with logins and tiered pricing, SEO and Google Business Profile.
An NDIS provider with no content, no photography and no time. We asked questions and produced everything else — copy, imagery and their Google Business Profile.
This page describes what we would build and why, not a track record we do not have yet. If you would rather hire someone with ten clients in your industry, that is a fair call — and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
