Websites & SEO for plumbers

Burst pipe at 6am. Who does she call?

Plumbing splits neatly in two. There is the emergency — a burst pipe, a blocked drain, no hot water — which is won on the phone in ten minutes. And there is the planned work — a bathroom, a gas fit-off, a hot water replacement — which is won on a quote and a bit of trust. A site that only does one of those is doing half the job.

Worth being blunt about

Two businesses sharing one phone number

Emergency plumbing and planned plumbing have almost nothing in common except the licence. One is a race, decided in minutes, where price barely matters. The other is a considered purchase over a week, where photos and a clear scope decide it. The common mistake is building the site for the planned work — because that is the nicer work — and then wondering why the emergency calls go elsewhere.

What's costing plumbers work right now

Three things we see on nearly every site in this industry. None of them are about how the site looks.

01

Emergency searches never reach your website

Someone standing in water does not browse. They search, they tap a number in the map box, and they call until somebody answers. If your profile is not in those three listings, your website's design is irrelevant to that job.

02

Blocked drains and bathroom renovations sold on one page

These are opposite customers. One wants you in the next hour at whatever it costs. The other wants photos, a scope and a fixed price, and will compare three quotes. Selling both from a single Services page means neither is convinced.

03

Quotes that die in a text thread

A quote sent as a text message with a number in it is easy to ignore and impossible to track. You do not know if it was read, and you have nothing to follow up against except memory.

How the job is won

Ninety seconds, start to finish

The emergency half of your business is decided faster than a website can be read.

1

Something bursts

Panic, then a phone. No browsing, no comparison, no reading your About page.

2

One search

Usually "emergency plumber" plus a suburb, usually resolved in the map box without scrolling.

3

They ring the first three

In order, until somebody picks up. Position one is worth roughly double position three.

4

Whoever answers, wins

Price is barely discussed. Availability is the entire decision.

The signature build

After-hours triage that decides whether you get out of bed

The problem with emergency plumbing is not missing calls. It is that a call at 2am tells you almost nothing about whether the job is worth attending, and you decide half asleep.

01

It answers when you cannot

Instead of voicemail or an engaged tone. A plumbing customer standing in water dials the next number within about ninety seconds, which is the whole gap this closes.

02

It asks the triage questions

Is the water off, can you get to the meter, is it inside or outside, is it a burst or a blockage, is anyone at risk.

03

You get a message, not a missed call

Address, problem, whether it is contained, and a callback number — on your phone, in a form you can read in ten seconds.

04

The non-urgent ones wait

A dripping tap at midnight becomes a booking for Tuesday instead of a drive across town, and the customer is told that politely rather than ignored.

What we'd build

The set-up for a plumber

Six of the things we build or run, chosen for this industry. Each says whether it is in the monthly plan or quoted on top — custom software is software, not pages. Plans and prices are on the pricing page.

01
Quoted on top

After-hours calls that do not go to voicemail

Weekends and 3am are when burst pipes happen and when your competitors are also asleep. An AI receptionist answers, sorts genuine emergencies from things that can wait until Tuesday, and messages you the address and the fault.

02
Quoted on top

Let them photograph the problem

A photo of the leaking joint, the hot water unit's data plate or the drain tells you more than five minutes on the phone. It also tells you which jobs are not worth driving to.

03
Quoted on top

Into ServiceM8 as a job

Enquiry, address, urgency and photos arrive as a job rather than an email. ServiceM8, AroFlo, simPRO and Fergus all publish an API we can work against. If your software does not, the enquiry still arrives as structured data rather than a paragraph to re-type.

04
Quoted on top

Follow up hot water quotes on their own

A hot water replacement quote that sits for three days is usually lost to whoever rang. An automatic nudge through Zapier, n8n or Make recovers a share of them for almost nothing.

05
Quoted on top

Ask for the review while they are grateful

The best moment to ask a plumbing customer for a Google review is about an hour after the water stopped. Build the ask into job completion and it happens without anyone remembering.

06
In the plan

The suburbs you will actually drive to at night

Not every suburb — the ones you would genuinely attend after hours. Honest coverage ranks better than a hundred thin pages, and it stops calls you have to turn down.

AI chatbot — free on every plan

A basic AI chatbot trained on your business, answering common customer questions on your site around the clock. We build it, train it and connect it free with every plan — AI message usage is billed separately.

Anything beyond basic question answering — lead capture and qualification, a large knowledge base, appointment booking, or connecting to your CRM and other systems — is quoted per project.

Your existing tools

The website should feed what you already run

Every tool listed here publishes a developer API, which is why it is listed — we checked. That is not the same as a connection already built: what can be pushed depends on your plan and setup, so we scope it before quoting. Where your software has no API, we say so rather than quote around it.

What your customers type

Searches, not slogans.

These are the kinds of phrases people use when they need a plumber. Which of them are worth chasing depends on volume, difficulty and what the work is worth to you — that is what the keyword research settles before we write a word, and it is the first thing we do on any project.

Most plumbers run something like ServiceM8, AroFlo, simPRO or Fergus. Where that software publishes an API we can feed it directly; where it does not, the enquiry still arrives as structured data rather than a paragraph of email. We check which before we quote anything.

Google Ads

Ads for emergencies, SEO for everything else

Emergency plumbing is one of the few cases where paid search is genuinely worth it from day one, because the job is worth several hundred dollars and the decision happens in minutes.

Ad spend is not part of the plan — it goes straight to Google. What the plan covers is building and managing the campaigns. See how we run Google Ads →

For this industry
Worth paying for"emergency plumber", "burst pipe", "blocked drain" — call-only, ad scheduling matched to when you answer.
Not worth paying for"bathroom renovation" and "plumber near me" — long decisions and mixed intent at a high price.
Exclude"how to", "DIY", "course", "apprenticeship", "Bunnings", "parts".
WatchCost per answered call. Not impressions, not clicks, not position.

And in your industry

This page describes what we would build and why, not a track record we do not have yet. If you would rather hire someone with ten clients in your industry, that is a fair call — and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

FAQs

Plumbers — questions we get asked

Yes, but the priority order changes. For emergency-heavy plumbing the Google Business Profile and the call answering do the heavy lifting, and the website mostly has to load fast and put the phone number where a thumb already is. We would build in that order.
