Websites & SEO for landscapers

Landscaping sells from photographs.

Nobody can picture a finished garden from a description. They can picture it instantly from a photograph of one you built. Landscaping is the most visual trade on this site and its websites are usually the least visual, which is an opportunity sitting in plain sight.

What's costing landscapers work right now

Three things we see on nearly every site in this industry. None of them are about how the site looks.

01

Finished work that nobody can see

The gardens are on a phone, or on an Instagram account with no link back. A project gallery organised by the kind of garden — courtyard, family backyard, native, poolside — is the difference between a visitor imagining their own place and a visitor leaving.

02

Design work and mowing sold as one thing

A full landscape design is a considered five-figure project. Fortnightly maintenance is a recurring service bought on price and reliability. Same business, entirely different websites' worth of persuasion.

03

A quiet winter every year

Demand swings hard with the seasons and most landscapers ride it. Maintenance contracts and the search work that fills the shoulder months are both ways of flattening the curve, and both need to be set up before the quiet arrives.

Worth being blunt about

The photographs are the product

In most trades the gallery supports the argument. In landscaping it is the argument. Nobody commissions a garden because of a well-written services page — they commission it because they saw a courtyard that looked like the one they have been imagining. Everything else on the site exists to get them to the photographs and then make it easy to enquire.

The signature build

The maintenance round, turned into a system

Design-build work is what landscapers enjoy and talk about. Maintenance contracts are what keep the business solvent in July, and they are almost always run badly.

01

Sites, frequencies and routes

Fortnightly, monthly, seasonal — grouped so a crew is not crossing the city twice in a morning.

02

Invoices that raise themselves

Recurring billing on the schedule rather than a Sunday evening spent in Xero reconstructing the fortnight.

03

Seasonal work, prompted

Pruning, mulching, irrigation checks. Extra revenue from clients you already have, offered at the right time of year automatically.

04

A record per site

What was done, when, and what needs doing next visit — so a different crew member is not guessing.

What we'd build

The set-up for a landscaper

Six of the things we build or run, chosen for this industry. Each says whether it is in the monthly plan or quoted on top — custom software is software, not pages. Plans and prices are on the pricing page.

01
In the plan

Gardens, organised by the garden people want

Courtyards, family backyards, native and drought-tolerant, poolside, front-of-house — with the suburb, the scope and the materials. Nobody can picture a finished garden from a description and everybody can picture it from a photograph.

02
Quoted on top

Maintenance rounds that run themselves

Routes, frequencies, recurring invoices and seasonal reminders. Maintenance is the income that carries you through winter, and most landscapers run it from a diary until it breaks.

03
Quoted on top

Filter the design enquiries

Approximate area, what they want, and a budget band. Landscape design enquiries range from three thousand dollars to ninety, and quoting them all is how your evenings disappear.

04
Quoted on top

Who is where this week

Build crews and maintenance rounds competing for the same people is the constant scheduling problem in this trade. A board beats a group chat once you pass a couple of crews.

05
In the plan

Spend that follows the season

Landscaping search collapses in winter and surges in spring. Ad spend that does the same, and content published before the surge rather than during it.

06
Quoted on top

Ask when the garden is at its best

Not on handover, when everything is freshly planted and bare — a few months later, when it has filled in and looks like the photograph you both wanted.

AI chatbot — free on every plan

A basic AI chatbot trained on your business, answering common customer questions on your site around the clock. We build it, train it and connect it free with every plan — AI message usage is billed separately.

Anything beyond basic question answering — lead capture and qualification, a large knowledge base, appointment booking, or connecting to your CRM and other systems — is quoted per project.

Timing

Where the year actually goes

Flattening this curve is most of what a landscaping business needs from marketing.

Aug–Nov

Peak enquiries. Everything you built in autumn is paying off now.

Dec–Feb

Building through the good weather. Photograph everything you finish.

Mar–May

Shoulder. Sell maintenance to the clients whose gardens you just built.

Jun–Jul

Quiet on design. Maintenance income and search work carry the months.

What your customers type

Searches, not slogans.

These are the kinds of phrases people use when they need a landscaper. Which of them are worth chasing depends on volume, difficulty and what the work is worth to you — that is what the keyword research settles before we write a word, and it is the first thing we do on any project.

Most landscapers run something like ServiceM8, AroFlo or a diary. Where that software publishes an API we can feed it directly; where it does not, the enquiry still arrives as structured data rather than a paragraph of email. We check which before we quote anything.

Your existing tools

The website should feed what you already run

Every tool listed here publishes a developer API, which is why it is listed — we checked. That is not the same as a connection already built: what can be pushed depends on your plan and setup, so we scope it before quoting. Where your software has no API, we say so rather than quote around it.

Google Ads

Run them in spring, not in July

This is one of the clearest seasonal patterns in any trade, and it should be reflected in where the money goes.

Ad spend is not part of the plan — it goes straight to Google. What the plan covers is building and managing the campaigns. See how we run Google Ads →

For this industry
PeakAugust through November. Bid up, and make sure the gallery is loaded before you start.
TroughMay through July. Pull spend back rather than paying for clicks from people browsing.
Split the campaignsDesign-build and maintenance are different customers with different budgets. Never one campaign.
Exclude"jobs", "course", "nursery", "Bunnings", "DIY", "plants for sale", "mowing jobs".

And in your industry

This page describes what we would build and why, not a track record we do not have yet. If you would rather hire someone with ten clients in your industry, that is a fair call — and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

Landscapers — questions we get asked

It is a start, and it is more than most. But Instagram does not rank in Google, cannot be organised by garden type, and does not put an enquiry form next to the picture. We can pull the good ones across and structure them.
